Sturts is a shorter version of player Dan Muller. Hard nosed, high BBIQ, right place right time, good defense.

Too bad coach Dan would never try to recruit someone like him.

He does, but instead of scholarships he just makes them all 'preferred' walk ons and never plays them

Our defense is terrible. It’s a shame because this team can score well. Oh well. With all the covid issues there are plenty of excuses to go around.

A loss . . . as expected . . . if you'd have told me we would shoot 47%, 53% from 3, make more FTs than Drake took, and commit only 10 total fouls, I would've thought we'd have a good chance to win . . . alas we lost this one in the paint.

Fouling the 3 point shooters and missing fts in second half hurt. Silver lining is that bench guys played well. Building depth should pay off in St. Lou. The last games on the road have been against heavy senior teams. This summer Emon needs to work on using his off hand around the rim. Freaky athletic.

Strong and Reeves were gassed and the only other guards available were walk ons. Tough to win a game like that. The boys came out and battled but were clearly not used to playing with these line ups.

Have to assume Schmitt was one of the guys that just cleared protocols. He was far away from the coaches in the middle of walk-on land. Games like these are why he was brought in, to battle, or at the very least, put 5 fouls on Broadie.

Good effort by the guys. Get healthy and I don’t think they’re playing Thursday at the Arch.

Kendall played a very nice game and so did Sy, given the circumstances.

Given the hand the roster was dealt, no real complaints about tonight. Defense was leaky, but it generally is regardless of who is on the court. Only playing seven with signifcant minutes from Ndaiye (15), Sissoko (14) and Washington (33). Lewis showed back up on the offensive end.

Used 7 players. Reeves 40 minutes and was mugged repeatedly. But a couple of bench players contributed which could help down the road. Due to fatigue had to play zone I think. Played hard. Just not enough healthy bodies. I also think will be a different story at Redbird.

They competed when undermanned and that is good to see. We tried to buy some time and protect Strong by playing zone and it didn't even begin to fool Drake. Devries is a very nice addition to this Drake team.

Fleming practiced on Saturday and about 20 min in, he sprained his ankle. Muller says they chose to keep some guys back since it was a flight and didn't want to risk any additional potential exposure. They'll be healthier on Sunday against Bradley but Muller doesn't really know what that means yet. The most ideal scenerio would be the return of Howard, Liam and Ryan.

This game could be helpful down the road. Sissoko and Washington played valuable minutes. Abdou is a shot blocker and it was refreshing to see him spark the team to start the game. In a half court man defense, he struggles. They would be better off playing the zone when he's out there.

What hurts this team so much is imo the guys that you need that are so important are Freeman and Fleming. They control the offense and are reasonably your best defensive perimeter players where now Lewis at times was focused on Penn or Devries. Would have been nice to have Freeman and Fleming on Penn or Wilkins so Lewis can take Devries. Its been nice to build depth on the inside tho and Sissoko, Washington and Abdou can play some minutes if needed.

One thing about last night that I don't think was mentioned... Reeves and Strong were the only scholarship guards available. I guess you could say Washington, who played some 2 when Strong was out but Emon is a wing.

Like when Skip & Jamar were out and Hansell & Cartmill had to basically play the whole 40 minutes against All-American’s Mike Bibby & Miles Simons. Tied @ 33 early in the 2nd half. But then, we’ll you know (as Paul Harvey would say) “the rest of the story”

Twenty-one minutes of must-watch TV, followed by nineteen minutes of "MY EYES".

Both the Tennessee and Arizona games were similar to the Drake game last night in that (due to health) very heavy minutes across limited players (vs the Volunteers and Wildcats, that was only six players).

Skipp/Jamar Hansell/Cartmill was an embarrasment of Riches (pun intended for those that were around back then)

While our depth against Arizona that night eventually caught up with us, Kyle and Steve were TREMENDOUS players and great guys - consummate teammates. the broken leg for Scahef was nuts.

I saw that game from about the 5th row behind the basket. Both games. We went from "OMG we could beat Arizona" to "This sucks" really fast.
