On senior night for Drake they will be honoring their all time Rebounder, Assister, and 3 point shooter in one class.
When you play 5 full years at Drake (ex. Sturtz), it makes it easier to throw up career records. Brodie played a year of prep, was at 2 Seton Hall for 2, and now Drake for 3. So Drake is definitely benefitting from several 23-24 year old players. I am glad there are a lot of these guys who finally exhausted their eligibility.

Considering who they are losing, I could easily see DeVries jump to a P5 team that makes an offer.

Tucker should make that jump a little easier.

Don’t say that. People get really upset. According to the board this year doesn’t matter and the core we are bringing back from a ten-win team just needs a big guy. Who cares that we haven’t improved at all or that we are going to win ten games. Year one was about just year one getting over!
This team does play hard, and there are players should be contributors next year. But the idea 4 returnees and a big guy, unless it’s Krutwig or Krikke isn’t going to be that good. We have lost 6 straight after playing together all year. We need 3-4 new starters unless guys take a big leap in the offseason.

In the second half we looked like an EV that had been out in sub-zero temperatures. No charge, no energy ... just drained, not able to move. Personally, I may have emptied the bench earlier to better position the team on Sunday.

Valparaiso keeps losing, leaving us a crack at ninth place (which is lining up to be Northern Iowa) - may like our chances better versus Missouri State or Murray State.

Personally, I thought the team was sluggish most of the game. Decent early 1st half, but then slowly drained away . . . We were 6-26 in the 2nd half, with 2 of those makes by Miller and Schmitt. The only 3 of the 2nd half was from Schmitt, who hasn't taken one all year. Might have been a good idea to handle this one like the Belmont game and let the end of the bench play the last 10 minutes or so.

Win on Sunday, hopefully.

We are not getting better.
The most frustrating part is the defense never got better. This is not an athletic or talented roster, but defense is heart and effort and they’ve shown little of either this season. We need a complete roster purge again. Honestly, nobody’s job should be safe at this point.. players or coaches.

I wasn’t able to watch. The Golden Girls marathon isn’t going to watch itself. That being said, I hope we play the 6:00 game Thursday. Ain’t no way Baltimore Bird can start feeding me beers at noon and still have cash left for the return flight to his Oriole nest after the Redbirds beat the Lydia Moss Gargoyles on championship Sunday. BB also said he would buy a beer for anyone on Redbird Fan that visits him in our Sugar Bear Suite. However, please don’t eat the chips on the table. Those are nachos.

I wonder how much not having another experienced assistant is playing into a lot of the “not getting better” as the year goes on stuff. I am still fully behind Pedon still as I think winning in the valley this year was going to be difficult regardless given his short turn around and being way behind on the recruitment cycle. That being said it is still disheartening to see them getting smoked by the top teams in the conference. I don’t think we will ever see Offutt on the sidelines and no one seems to have a clue what is going on there. But I can’t help but imagine having another experienced voice in the locker room wouldn’t have helped.

Are you offering up your bank account to pay any buyout? I say that because it seriously seems like there is no money to go around for the buyout with all the other bills that have to be paid.

We will have at least 1 new Asst coach. That person will need to be a key recruiter. Judson seems to be involved in every facet - player development, recruiting, strategy. Dakich is a hungry 3rd Asst heading into his 2nd season. He seems like he puts in the work.

Bring in 3/4 starters next year and it will more than likely be a close repeat to this season You can’t rebuild every here. A program will never turn around doing that

I tend to agree. I value experience and chemistry more than most. Coach wants players that are loyal and committed to the program, I think he needs to show that same level of loyalty to the players that WANT to be here.

Want to know a way to never get the winning back? Taking your advice.

Now it’s getting ugly
Malachi played 3 games (1.0 MPG) at Virginia his freshman season. He played 19 games (6.3 MPG) his sophomore year. This season he has played in 29 games (31.7 MPG). Would you think that Mal is running out of gas? That’s a lot of minutes he has logged this season. At this point it appears that Mal is running on pure heart and determination. Losing Colton has been a huge loss and heavy load for Mal (as well as Darius, Luke, and Seneca).

I agree 100%. Also playing the point require even more stamina physically and mentally. We talked about this very same thing midway through the season. He’s been fighting through for a bit now. He’s smart enough to know he won’t have this problem next year

This is a very good point. A point guard is like the catcher on a baseball team that requires a more significant and consistent investment mentally and a high level of understanding of the offense subsequent with the decision making that it inherently carries. You can see Mal and DBs growth as the season has progressed. These first year growing pains will pay dividends next year in experience and skill as better players are added at the right positions and more depth can assist the heavy minute loads some are bearing now without adequate depth to feed the minute requirement for such positions — at least this is my hope and expectation. None of us like the win/loss results this year but I do like the individual areas of growth that will be a strength next year. In some cases it is pay now and cash in later knowing such transactional returns require that the main core remains.

Well said and that’s exactly why the losses especially the close ones matter the most when rebuilding a program.

Mal and DB would also stay a lot fresher if we didn't keep switching and having them battle on the blocks with players 4 to 6 inches taller and 40 to 50 pounds heavier.
