So if there is a spring football season, our opener would likely be Feb 27. That assumes no bye weeks and an 8 game MVFC season with the last conference game the day before the playoff field is selected. Obviously we could see snow any time into April, but most daily highs in the last days of February are above freezing in Normal. You'd want day games for the sun.
Will fans even be allowed to attend the games?

Well, let's just be happy we don't have one of those pesky indoor facilities to get in the way of practicing outside in January.😒
Redbird Rising Campaign is now at 180m ... 30m over its target.

Maybe Larry will make good on his publicly released video commitment that an IPF was the #1 priority for athletics.

Left at halftime because I was soaked all the way down to my underwear. Weather couldn’t make up its mind what it wanted to do. Was a very uncomfortable ride back to Rochester. Took a shower and walked over to Rocket Booster Stadium to catch the Rockets playoff game. Fortunately the weather was much nicer down here in the tropics.
Hah, I was not at USD, but I was at 2017 NDSU driving rain turned sleet turned snow game and stuck it out .. to the bitter end.

Any prediction of fan access is just a guess. It depends on lowering public transmission rates. But still, weather conditions impact the players and the game.

I think the game conditions won't be that different than late fall games. But the weeks of practice leading up to the first game could be brutal.

Maybe they'll all catch it before the first kickoff:

MADISON, Wis. — Health officials say 42 players and staff with the Wisconsin football team have tested positive for COVID-19 as the Big Ten makes plans to get the season started.

Public Health Madison & Dane County says the 42 people tested positive since June when athletes and staff returned to campus.

Twenty-nine of the 42 positive tests were from Sept. 1 through Sept. 15.

42 Badger players, staff test positive for coronavirus

Average high temperatures in Bloomington. Looks like fall, in reverse.

It looks to me like the biggest losses were on the defensive side of the ball. The offense should be pretty solid I think. Spack is definitely a defensive guy. It seems that he usually turns out solid defenses every year. Yes, this fall's defense should have been something pretty special. But it is football and the guys who left could also have gone down to season-ending injuries in the first game or two. Kind of like the receiving corps was decimated last season. Maybe the offense needs to carry the defense a bit more this year. Brady, I think, may have the kind of year we were all hoping for since his arrival. A good young stable of running backs and Proctor returns. The receivers who were injured get another few months to totally heal and the line should still be solid. The question on the O-line is probably Himmelman. I have not read anything about him. That would be a big loss but everyone gets replaced eventually. I think the glass is a bit better than half full.
I watched Notre Dame last week and will watch them again today. Still, I am missing watching the Redbirds on Saturday. With all the games being streamed it has become a weekend event with my wife and me. She even knows the players by name (you don't know how truly impressive that is!)! She did not attend ISU but she proudly wears the red & white for every game. Not as much fun this fall.

It really sucks about the kids that have left but honestly this happens every year. It is part of being in the FCS. We get kids trying to prove the FBS program was wrong and kids leave to prove they can play up. This year makes it sting a little more. I don't care if it is snowing all day or negative 10 I will be at the first game. I will sneak in if I have to! In reality I am hoping they let in season ticket holders by then but who knows. We might have a better chance of getting into an away game. The Dakota, Ohio, Indiana, and Missouri teams will probably let fans in before Illinois does.

It really sucks to watch other teams play and our guys are watching. Now does anyone know will Missouri State still be allowed to play a spring season since they are playing three games now?

It is expected that the MVFC will have an 8 game conference only season that would match the same schedule that had been in place for the fall, with any necessary adjustments. When the NCAA picks the playoff teams, they will be able to consider games played during the 20-21 academic year, so both Fall and Spring.

Since Mo State is only playing three games, I think they'll play the conference schedule in the Spring. From a football standpoint, the three early games will really help the Bears and their new coaching staff. I expect them to be improved by the time conference season rolls around.

Teams playing a "full" fall schedule will be eligible for the playoffs, but if they aren't playing any spring games I don't know how they could really get ready for it.

That's how I see it, but of course everything is tentative these days.

FCS Spring Playoffs, not very fair to the best teams, by picking 11 conference champs, some would be middle of the pack or lower in the MVFC. Only 5 at large teams, maybe two from MVFC.
Every game is a playoff game... 🏈
