What about the conference bringing officials to work Arch Madness who do not work the regular season games? I found out today, several fans from another school has floated the idea to Doug Elgin about bringing officials from either the East or West Coast to work the games - so there are no lingering problems with certain officials from the regular season.

Apparently Elgin is thinking about that proposal.

Yeah, well, Doug Elgin is the Larry Lyons of commissioners.

EXCELLENT idea! The less I see Pollard and Higgins the better.

I have been really upset with Higgins and Pollard and really mad about it for years.

When I look back at the last 6 Championship games we were in, we were probably the better team meaning our season record and strength was better only once. That was Osiris’s Jr year.

The games have been exponentially more physical which we have not handled well. It’s pretty clear the last 3/4 times we had more fouls against us, but if I am honest with myself, we have not handled well and we to be more physically and mentally tough.

I reckon if we have a dominant winning regular season, Higgins and Pollard will give us our fair share of calls - at least I am optimistic. We still need to be more physical with the more body and less hand use.

I have been so frustrated that I am willing to try anything and certainly my total angst toward these guys has yet to change them to my way on thinking.

I would buy them a steak dinner the next time they come to Normal if I thought it would make a difference. Somehow I think these guys are going to march to their own drum.

I have noticed that getting on their bad side as a player doesn’t help. The mind set maybe has to be to stroke their ego hoping for nothing in return but enough to stay off the blacklist.

I hope we are good enough and they are balanced enough that this frustration of not winning and not getting to the dance ends soon.

Nice write up, Red Rocker! I ditto your feelings and angst.

Then I stop and wonder the WHAT IF....so if we lost the next championship game and Higgins/Pollard are nowhere to be seen...I don't have anybody to blame for the loss.

Biggest thing that bothers me with an official, even more than poor calls(if I can determine such a thing)...is an antagonistic body language and attitude. I realize sometimes you just have bad nights, but it's such an emotional game that the last thing an official needs to be doing is adding to that emotion.

One of those 2 guys is really 'talented' in that expression, imo.

I had something very similar in my office. It was left by my predecessor. It's still there and it's gotta be 40. Some things never change.

I'm fine with Higgins, don't like Pollard. A couple other of our MVC regulars I can do without (Tom O'Neil has seen better days, Paul Janssen, Joe Derosa).

I think "outside" officials isn't a bad idea if you can pull it off, but not just "any old refs", but some decent ones. Either way, there'd be less chance of past incidents getting in the way.

But, like my first comment, it's all opinion. There's some Big 10 refs I would hate to see, some I'd be fine with.

It's not that I think Valley officials are not as good as whoever is chosen to officiate the tourney. It just takes away any excuses by fans or coaches or admins about any bias or baggage that may have carried over during the regular season. I can see both sides. If outside officials are chosen, then there will be complaints about officials calling a different style of game, ie more physical, less physical, whatever. But I do think it's worth a shot, Familiararity can breed contempt. Perhaps the Valley can just switch with another conference like the Mountain West or A10.
