May not be a popular opinion but that's a big pile of crap. Shouldn't have expected less

Which sport do you think would attract top candidates? The bball team that is in a 22 year drought? Or the big time football program that plays its season in the Spring?

Personally, I'm very disappointed in the lack of diversity. I honestly feel we shouldn't have any white male finalists . . . ISU needs to remember who hired the first black HC in D1 basketball. We could be a university that moves to the forefront of building up minority and female athletic department employees. ISU needs to send a message that we will support and uplift minority and female staff. Having another middle-age (or near middle-age) white male says pretty much the opposite.

All that said, I doubt Dietz has the guts to pick the lone minority candidate. And we probably end up with the Illini kid done good . . . hopefully he's not Larry Lyons 2.0.

Best qualified. That’s all. Putting any limits on the race, gender or ethnicity of candidates would be illegal, unwise and unfair to everyone. If I were a candidate, I’d want to know I got hired due to my merit rather than my DNA.

That is ridiculous! Nobody should be judged by thier race, sex, age or religion. To say you must hire based on that alone is 100% wrong. Seems as if you think a hiring process based on those items is "progress". Looks exactly the opposite to me.

What a bunch of crap.
Based on that asinine comment, you're likely the same kind of person that cheers on the dude who identifies as a women as he squeaks past my daughter in the 800m.

Nobody is able to choose their race, sex, age etc. Therefore, why should someone not be considered for a job or anything else based on what they are?
Isn't that discrimination?
Agreed. I can’t tell you how offensive I find this “we need to hire a “POC” shit. America is a merit based society. At least it once was...

It can be easy to misinterpret comments, but you say "remember who hired the first black HC in D1 history" - okay, that was a middle-aged white male, I believe, Mr. Milt Weisbecker. Not sure what point you were trying to make, but that's my takeaway, that lots of different kinds of people can have lots of different kinds of attitudes and behaviors towards race (and gender for that matter).

Lots of posters have now jumped on you Bird Friend, for wanting to see a cast of diverse candidates, and somehow interpreted that you don't want to see the most qualified person hired. I assume that you DO want the most qualified person hired, but that you think there are well-qualified people of color out there who could be on the list.

I hope we can hire someone who's very well-qualified in terms of experience and leadership, and also is sensitive to, or has an affinity for (or some other language) the challenges faced by all parties, particularly the young people who come to ISU to participate in athletics who are people of color, or women.

I trust the candidates who've been chosen have the necessary leadership skills, but that the interview process will reveal if they don't.

Curious? Do anyone know what clients the search firm has been hired by to find perspective collegiate ADs?

You say transgender women have an advantage over other female athletes. Not a good analogy here as woman and minorities do not have an advantage over middle-aged white men in this situation.
