Northwestern State University. Located in beautiful Natchitoches, Louisiana (the original French Colony). It’s a beautiful small town on the Cane River. It’s the home of the “Sweet Magnolia” Movie. AND only a short four hour drive over to the French Quarters in Beautiful downtown New Orleans, Louisiana. Sounds like a good road trip.
And just 6 hours from the Worlds Biggest Ball of Yarn

🤦‍♂️apparently I was overcome by the desire of a great matchup, I’m not quite so excited with the Ball State matchup-oh well, let’s just go win them all, that will take care of those pesky SOS issues👍

Ohio State has finalized it's noncon schedule and no game with the Birds. I'm sure Holtman and Pedon will connect at some point in the coming years.

The December 7th game just got a little more interesting. Emoni Bates, a former top recruit in the country, has transferred to EMU from Memphis.
Will he even still be enrolled or healthy? Don’t get wrong nice to play a 5*, but seemed to be getting bad advice and only played in 18 games.

The Birds are buying SIUE.

I’ve mentioned before. I’m fine with a year 1 Jank schedule. Help them get some level of confidence before going into MVC play. I’ll hope for a better schedule in ‘23.

I believe this is a rundown of what we know.

10/29: Wooster
11/12: at Northwestern State
11/17: Northwestern State
11/21: vs LSU (Cayman Islands)
11/22: vs TBD (Cayman Islands)
11/23: vs TBD (Cayman Islands)
11/29-12/4 (two MVC games, one home, one away)
12/7: vs EMU
12/10 - SIUE
12/17: vs Ball State (at Indianapolis)
12/19- Chicago State

There may have a return game @UNCW. Gotta think they'll be going on the road a couple more times. I'm thinking they get a game on 11/8 when the season kicks off. Don't anticipate a game between 12/10 and 12/19 (finals are 12/10-12/16).

Remember there is one extra road game this year in conference and 4 nuetral games so far. I actually think at least one game will be a home game. If they schedule 31 games the last could be home or away.

Here is a comparison to recent years (exclude COVID year)
Current known
9 valley home plus 4 nonconference = 13 home + 1 exhibition

2021 - 22
16 home games + 1 exhibition

2019 - 20
14 home games + 1 exhibition

2018 - 19
15 home games + 2 exhibition

I'll be the first to admit that I have zero knowledge of the processes of how these schedules come about. That being said, I find it hard to believe EIU, WIU, or NIU wouldn't come here for free. Make it a H/H. We are NOT above playing a road game at any of these schools. For $70,000 you could add another assistant coach. I just don't get why we don't schedule the directional schools?? Would love to see Benson ask Pedon or Brennan about it.

Totally get what you're saying. However, it's surely bias on my part but I'd say the Birds are above playing a H/H with EIU and WIU, despite recent struggles. That said...the previous staff thought it'd be a good idea to get H/Hs with a team that is consistently 300+ in every D1 ranking system. NIU could work since it's an hour away from Chicago, and even closer to some of the burbs that prospective recruits could come out and watch.

I also know little about the scheduling process, but one would hope if ISU is paying SIUE to come play here, the Birds would want to "balance the checkbook" and go get bought to play somewhere else. The idea of buying teams is interesting. Paying SIUE $70k....does admin think the value of that game is 70k? That playing SIUE is going to bring in anywhere close to that kind of revenue? I don't think that's the mindset but it's interesting to think about.

Actually, that could be exactly what they're hoping for. This game would draw what, 3K during the week (maybe), at an average of $20 per ticket thats 60K right there. Now this game is on a Saturday with students still there before Xmas break, and with a spark of renewed interest, they're probably counting on making that $70K back. Probably won't turn a profit on the game but breaking even should be realistic. I don't particularly like buying this game either but it is what it is.

As for playing the directional schools, I agree, why not at this stage? We did play them all years ago in H/H's and then stopped. I for one wouldn't mind a matchup with WIU and begin the Nick Irvin courtship
