I hate to sound like the bad guy here, but Kotov has played a total of 96 minutes as a Redbird and acquired his Bachelors and now Masters on ISU’s dime. That’s a poor return on investment, I think it’s time to move on. Free up the scholarship.

Maybe Dan just didn’t know what the hell he was doing. He wasted Ndiaye after we pulled the commitment over some better programs. If Pedon sees something he gets the benefit of doubt.

There could be something more to him continuing school. If he is still a Russian citizen, staying in school may be a safer and better option? I wonder what his military obligation is if he is still a citizen. Just a random thought.

Sissoko....I believe his 1st college game was against Ohio State and he was a pleasant surprise in an otherwise lackluster performance.
Pedon might have liked what he saw. I believe Sissoko can be an asset if used properly.

Maybe they are keeping him around to boost the team GPA.

Sissoko reminds me a little of Zeke Upshaw. I didn't anticipate Zeke would become another teams top gun, but I never understood why he didn't play more for ISU. Seems Pedon sees something in Sissoko that maybe Muller did not or has a different way to utilize his talents.

Sissoko is intriguing and frustrating in my opinion. Clearly Muller and staff saw something because they started him at the beginning of the the 2020 - 21 season (his RS freshman season). He struggled on the defensive end (lateral movement and the zone). Offensively he was not a great perimeter shooter and seldom drove to the basket. He has the size and strenght to challenge others on the boards but sometimes lacks positioning. He started 13 games last year and rarely saw the floor this year.

Kotov is a mystery. I know he started against Ohio State the first game when Dusan was hurt and Chatman didn't play. I don't recall anything about that game except the miserable start and being down 22 - 0. I remember he had so many dunks against Greenville which means absolutely nothing. I do remember that he played surprising key minutes in a win against Bradley at RBA. If I recall correctly he played well in the zone in the second half. I remember video of him when he was being recruited and I thought he was a stretch 4 but I cannot recall him ever attempting a 3 in him limited minutes.

I’d like to think Pedon would be able to fill 4 more scholarships, but maybe it’s a scenario where both parties need each other. Kotov may not have other options, and Pedon may not be confident he can improve the team by replacing Kotov’s size. I guess like everyone else, I wish we’d have more of the scholarships filled by bigs by now.

I've heard that Kotov performs well in practice and that him and Muller didn't get along well. With 3 years of eligibility left and 4 years of experience in college practices already I feel like he might be a pleasant surprise

I was just repeating exactly what the writer stated...project.
I probably should just let this ignorance die a natural death by not responding further, but I didn't see any writer refer to Poindexter as a "project" and even if someone did their opinion is meaningless compared to Coach Pedon's, and in the Pantsgralh article linked a couple of pages ago on this thread Coach Pedon was high on him and happy to have him as a Redbird. To me, any other opinion at this time isn't worth a bucket of warm spit (a vivid description of insignificance that I first heard from a law school professor).

I'm guessing the popsto4 is savvy enough to quickly figure out which posters are best ignored.

I believe he has two years left

Two JUCO years and two at ISU less a COVID and one redshirt.

Idk how his 2nd Juco year counts. He got injured immediately and didn’t play. Maybe 2 games at most. Plus if he got to ISU with 2 to play then he gets a free Covid year. Last year was redshirt.

I think Kotov has 2 years. He could probably apply for a 7th year and medical redshirt from that JUCO year, but I don't think he will and I am not sure if it would be granted. Plus it becomes more complicated with schooling. He going to be getting his MBA now.

I know there’s a graduate transfer rule . . . Is there a post-graduate transfer rule?

In the Pantagraph today Pedon said for the remaining 3 scholarships that he wants to address defense, shooting and versatility. He continued to say that he's not sure if he's going to use all of the remaining 3 scholarships. Less is more and he doesn't want to force anything that is not there long term just to use a scholarship.
Everything seems pretty fluid as of right now with the roster. Might get another shooter in the 6'5-6'7 range and maybe Liam or Sissoko play in the post or we play small. It definitely sounds like he wants defense, shooting and guys who can play multiple spots.

Defensively Liam is not physically able to play heavy minutes on a big. Ryan and Sissoko have to improve enough to stay out of foul trouble. Currently, down 2 post players from last year. Unless they do away with the shot clock, don't think a 6'5" and under team will fare well in the Valley.

I am getting the feeling that Pedon and staff really like and believe that Kotov will be a contributor.

I was thinking just they might use smaller lineups for matchup problems to space the floor and to get shooters on the court and I totally are with you and they think that Kotov will be a contributor with Schmitt in the post.
