So here is who we have lost so far according to the roster. Sucks to lose Bromagen if that is the case but not bad overall. Our biggest needs are OL, WR, DL, and DB in my opinion, but as long as the pipeline is developing properly, we should be fine.

Graduation
WR I'Shawn Stewart
QB Zack Annexstad
FB Brad Gothelf
LB Jacob Bellizzi
OL Peyton Asche
DL Cody Zugenbuehler
OL Peter Bussone
OL Kobe Rios
TE Cam Grandy
DL Josh Dinga

Transfers
DB Jeff Bowens
WR Tyreke Fortney
K Josh Jasek
DB Frank Schmitt

Unknown
LB Darrell Talley III
WR Brad Vierneisel (I think he quit football)
OL Justin Bromagen
DL D'Marco Cross
OL Daniel Forystek

Tye did take a redshirt... I wouldn't mind seeing Dexter take advantage of that as well. If he does, I could see another Fresh DPOY for the Niekamp's. It will be fun to have 2 on the field, that's for sure. Where do you think he could slot in? I don't know much but I could see him being the Jack or maybe Sam. I think he spent a lot of time on the Dline at Normal Community. 2 deep last year was Gaines and Edwards for Jack; Abdullah and Talley III for Sam. Starters should be solidified there but opportunities will come if he's ready.
From reading Edgy Tims review, he seemed to think he will be ready as true FR.

I think Mailander has a chance to see the field as a freshman. We shall see.

Regardless, a very good looking depth chart at the moment.

WR I'Shawn Stewart - 2023 Roster says JR, but he was a true FR in 2018 at Oregon St, so 2023 is 6th year. But not sure if he played anywhere in 2022.
QB Zack Annexstad
FB Brad Gothelf - 2023 Roster says RS SO, so must be early graduate. He can come back as Grad, but he's got got 2 years left.
LB Jacob Bellizzi
OL Peyton Asche
DL Cody Zugenbuehler
OL Peter Bussone
OL Kobe Rios
TE Cam Grandy
DL Josh Dinga
I had dropped the 2023 roster into pivot table and it showed 8 SRs ... so looked again, and noted the 2 differences in Bold above.

And it's great to hear Dillon Gearhart will be back .. I didn't even realize he started every game last year as well.

I would of assumed Smith at guard. I wonder if Zambrano to guard if Smith doesn't work out. Either way line looks very solid.

He also mentioned that Zambrano could move to guard. Possible 1st team O-Line to start the Spring -
T-Guedet, G-Zambrano, C-Wroten, G-Gudaitis, T-Pope
lot of transfers on our OL .. 4 of top 6 potential starters mentioned above. TR's 2 Guards are the HS recruits. So if Smith plugs into one of those spots .. 4 of 5 starters will be transfers.

T-Guedet (Minn), G-Zambrano (HS), C-Wroten (Duke), G-Gudaitis (HS), T-Pope (Kentucky) .. or G-Smith (WMU)

This will be a good group to watch in the spring game. If they're performing right out of the starting gate that will be a mighty good omen for '24. I was going to say something positive about it but I don't want to jinx the way the depth chart is looking. Damn, I would like to get a W against those cheese-eatin' Bizen.

Cheese-eating Bizen ??

You are getting way ahead of yourself there ... because first we're going to shuck those corn-eatin' Hawkeyes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man ... we definitely need to work on our smack talk. Good thing it's still offseason .. we've got time to work off the rust.\

p.s. more serious note .. Bison will be definite favorites over Jackrabbits, who should fall back to their old norm for 2024.

Yes, even I, as a transplant to Wisconsin, take offense at calling the Bizen "cheese-eating". You all know Wisconsin is the cheese capital. North Dakota, I don't know, I would guess chewing wheat stalks? Sugar beets? Buffalo jerky?? :ROFLMAO:

I can assure you no shade was being thrown on the residents of the fine state of Wisconsin. This is another expression with it's roots in WWII, as it was common insult among US and British troops and typically directed at the French. At least, that's what I always thought.

We can't let this pass without mention because Randy deserves the hustle award for getting this signing day article out. Both Illinois State and Wesleyan had basketball games that day, so he had to write an article for each of those in addition to this one. Wednesday was also the Pantagraph Sports Dept. monthly social. As hospitality host Randy had to bake and serve chocolate chip cookies for the entire staff. I hope he enjoyed them.

with so many returnees and transfers, hard to imagine how they managed this schollie wise. Bowen & Mueller transfers must have freed up 2 full rides, I would guess.
