Is it telling that none of the Redbirds who has entered the portal have yet to commit to another school? I’m quite sure Reeves will sign with a P5 school but it just strikes me as weird that no one has signed yet.

What happens to the players if they do not sign with another school?

Nah, it's still pretty early in today's recruiting. Five years ago, yeah, it'd probably be telling but now, most of the guys entered the portal later than they would in a normal year because of the meetings with Pedon. Couple that with some coaches being patient with the portal since May 1 is the final date to enter. The coaches may just want to see what is available. Signing period goes until May 18.

All of these guys will find homes. Some will be D1, others may have to drop down and get some film before returning to D1. It'll be interesting to see where the Fleming-Washington-Andrews class ends up. I'm guessing they'll all be much closer to home.

Patterson would be a nice add!! Adunk, is it reasonable to think we will know about some other transfers who plan on coming to ISU by the end of May, or will this stretch out through the summer? Thanks

Not Adunk, but I’d venture a guess we’ll see some of the musical chairs stop starting next week. May 1 is the cutoff to enter the portal and get the free transfer. Think a lot of schools are still in wait and see what’s available mode. We added Lewis the first week of May last year and Liam didn’t join until the first week of June.

I think by the end of May, most of the dust will be settled. Technically signing day runs through May 18, so I'll venture we see a lot of action throughout college hoops the next 3 weeks, with maybe a handful of Liam-like stragglers. Another date of note is that summer classes begin May 16. Surely, most will be enrolled online or hybrid but as I understand it, players take summer classes to lighten their in-season work load. I think they also have to be enrolled in one to participate in summer workouts. I could be wrong about that, though.

I can't imagine being a coach trying to navigate the portal. You have to be aggressive but also patient. At times waiting for the dominos to fall and others, being the one to push them. Not an easy job at all.

You can see why guys like Jay Wright are calling it quits. The really good relationship-building coaches are going to struggle as more and more 'voices' compete for their players' attention. Keeping kids for 4 years--even in the big schools--is going to continue to get harder and harder.

Im not sure how any coach at the mid major level is supposed to plan….here is a player who informs his coach/school today that he’s entering the portal. All along, coaches who get this late of notification are expecting the player to return. Now, they are left scrambling. Maybe no one should be able to sign until a week after the deadline to enter the portal. Just seems so unfair that a school that gets notified in the next couple days that a player is leaving has little chance of picking up a better player if the portal has already been picked over….I just can’t believe the mess the NCAA has made…. Totally ruined what was a pretty good product.

Gotta think Reeves to UK added incentive for Mosley. Wonder if Oregon will offer up the NIL for him.

I think it will largely depend on where Baylor Scheierman ends up. I have to think that if he doesn't choose Kentucky we may see Mosley end up there as well.

Dana Ford is starting to turn into the second coming of Eric Mussleman, The Great Importer.
