Did Loyola back off? Academically I would be very leary of going to Grand Canyon. Seems like he had other options with equal basketball programs and much better academics.

Jerry Colangelo is heavily involved with Grand Canyon. Maybe Finke has designs on a basketball career as something other than a player. Colangelo & Majerle could provide a big boost up.

interesting outcome on Finke's recruitment. At one point he had at least 10 high major offers including 3 Big 10 programs. Offers from Oregon, Northwestern, Ohio State, Iowa State included. No MVC schools offered I believe but he did have an offer from UIC. I wonder if all offers were rescinded and he ended up at Grand Canyon by design or default? Grand Canyon is certainly not sitting idle.
