Looks like another case where the staff identified a really talented player early on in his recruitment.

Brock Spack talked about his football recruiting and how if they really like somebody that hasn't got an offer, then they wait until the last minute to give one. There were times that bigger schools noticed ISU had offered somebody, then swooped in and stole them. Probably not quite what happened there. Those are some huge programs so this kid wouldn't have been kept a secret for too long. Can never fault Dan for trying though.

Same thing in general is happening with Zion Griffin (as you're aware). Just saw a blurb where he (and Hellems actually) has a shot to move into Rivals' top 150.

This is a really interesting post. IMO, football and basketball recruiting are incredibly different. It seldom that a star will go under the radar in basketball because there are a lot less players on the court and talent sticks out. In football, with 22 guys on the field every time, it is easier to get lost in the fold. And once a coach finds out a kid has another offer, he will pay closer attention to that player, a las the flood gates open.

Look at Chastain. Matt didn't have a ton of offers untill Loyola, then Utah and boom!
