I don’t know what the answer is but we clearly do not have the budget to compete in both sports, and basketball is a helluva lot less expensive than football.
Either go all in on hoops, or just realize that we’ll forever be a blip on the screen of sports’ importance with zero shot at anything...
All P5 recruits are getting mega-cash regardless of whether they sit or not; the kind of cash mid-majors can only dream of.
In other words, the kid may not play, but he’s still getting $1 million/year vs. starting at a Valley school and maybe getting $50,000?

Imagine being a coach in this current environment. The first instance of “constructive criticism” and your star player is off to another school. These coaches must be constantly walking on eggshells.

The only possible solution is to say “F you” to the NCAA. Let them create 2 or 3 mega conferences of blue bloods and the rest of the schools can create a whole new organization that harkens back to the good ole’ days.
The new basketball league would probably have 275 schools.

Maybe we somehow incentivize the NIL. As an example, score 20 points (in a win) and you get $20,000.
Of course I have no idea where that $20,000 would come from.
