Ok, with Luke gone and considering what we have on the roster, what do we need with this open spot? Anyone know who we are chasing hard? Anyone hear about any campus visits??
We are losing Foster, Schmitt, Sissoko, and Lewis. We added Daugherty and Boser. IMO we desperately need a big body. There is a greater than remote chance that Lieb and Walker could both be injured at the same point next year, in which case we are screwed with the current roster make up.I feel like the roster could use another big but it seems the staff is targeting some wing type players. With how the roster is made up currently, some small ball, shoot teams out of the gym may be the plan for 2024-25.
Injury is a possibility for every player but with bigs down it may force a rapid pace and that’s where shooters can really strive. I like the makeup of the roster to this point. We are losing Foster, Schmitt, Sissoko, and Lewis. We added Daugherty and Boser. IMO we desperately need a big body. Seeing what we saw last year, I can’t believe we are saying we are a Lieb injury away from being screwed inside for this upcoming season. We are losing Foster, Schmitt, Sissoko, and Lewis. Forget about injuries. We are a whistle happy ref away from being left with no inside game.Seeing what we saw last year, I can’t believe we are saying we are a Lieb injury away from being screwed inside for this upcoming season.

I’m feeling about this roster right now. I believe it’s the best under Pedon. I like it.Transfer portal additions may lead to different look for Illinois State basketball
ISU has added three players with 3-point shooting talent.pantagraph.com
Pedon confirms the suspicion of small ball and seemingly a 4 out 1 in philosophy. He says in the article that he wants a minimum of 4 guys who can shoot it on the court at the same time.
With the last scholarship, he points to the forward spot and says he can never have too many shooting forwards.
It's interesting how Pedon has learned and seemingly adjusted coming into his third off-season. If you recall, at his intro presser he talked about playing by forcing themselves on the opponent, playing physical and through the paint. Just two short years later, it has gone from pounding the rock in the post, to spreading teams out and hitting the 3 ball. Caden, Boden, and Landon come in shoot just shy of 40% from 3, collectively.
Shooting a lot of threes can lead to some long rebounds, so maybe that's where Pedon thinks the boards will come from?
Anyway, get a good big in (6'8+, 220+) and I'm feeling good about the roster, on paper.
I expect an average of 25 3pta/game. Maybe higher. If it is truly raining 3's, hallelujah, and a reasonable % are going in, we will be so much more fun to watch.
Let's get one more shooter and go for it!
Similar to the sycamores game plan last year? I'll take that.Transfer portal additions may lead to different look for Illinois State basketball

I also very much hope for big man, I’d hoped that this NCAA tourney would help to rethink the idea that having 2-3 bigs on the floor is outdated. like most of you, I watched the Birds try 4 guards the last couple seasons under his predecessor. Sorry but unless you are P5 and can put 4 6’5”-6’7” shooters on the floor size matters. I get he’ll have to play with what he gets, but I don’t see the capability to play defense or rebound against bigger opponents. Feeling another early exit in the Lou if we don’t find size.Transfer portal additions may lead to different look for Illinois State basketball
