Eligibility Tracker

We all know there will be and needs to be some level of roster churn. That said, I'm hoping Pedon has to fill no more than 4 scholarships next year. That would mean 6 new guys, including the freshmen, 4 xfers, and 7 returners.

You have to assume we'll have 5 or 6 portal guys, and probably pick up some two year guys in the process to replace them next year. It feels like the worst-case is that everybody stays, we pick up 2 HS guys for 24, and then trying to fill 10 spots in 25?
10 spots to fill for any returning coaching staff is way to many. I do t see it playing out that way at all.

With all the potential roster turnover from other teams and the number of 5th year players on ISU, Pedon should go all in for next year and diligently target a few key pieces.
Agreed, especially since we have a solid core of 5 freshmen/sophomores. We can go all in next year and still have a foundation in place for the following year.

That is probably the new future. Not that I like it but reality is there will be lots of movement going forward.

I agree but 10 spots are a massive number to replace. It would take a miracle for a successful season at this level for any program.

I agree but w/o looking, I heard a sports talk show today about Utah St. which made the dance, having almost all portals. Not sure how true or how much, but it can be done apparently.

Didn't Drake have 10 new guys this year? It's like the NBA's G Leaque except that have new guys moving in and off the roster through out the year.

Yeah the NCAA has been doing a great job of managing equitable intercollegiate athletics

Give the NCAA time....

The NCAA is going to keystone cops their way around this for more than a few years. My guess is one of two things will happen, one the NIL will end up regulating itself as large backers will stop seeing value of giving kids 100k to play one year for their team, only for their team to not get beyond the elite 8, and that kid to leave the next year for a new team. This will likely result in either long term lock ins on NIL deals or a great fall off in NIL deals.

The other thing that I could see happening is that the Power Conferences attempt to more or less leave the NCAA form essentially a professional league, the NBA sees them as competition and spanks them (insert the NFL on the football side as well).

Big schools are coming out of the gate with Larry Johnson offers. Generally the market should push up from there, but maybe everyone will reign in and refine how they offer. If they aren’t NBA material, maybe a bear market will take over.

So this is roughly how the depth chart looks. Lots of wing players. Need a major addition at the 4. Foster was a huge loss.

PG: Kinziger, Banks
SG: Poindexter, Wolf, Norris, Blake
SF: Skunberg, Davis, Kasubke
PF: Daugherty, Pence
C: Walker, Lieb

This is really interesting. I kinda see Skunberg as more of a SG because I believe by his videos he have more of the ability to put it on the floor. So I can see he and Wolf switching spots even though I believe they both can be versatile. Competition for spots have been greatly improved. The staff are doing a great job.

I don't think anyone would call Pence a power forward. You've got 4 shooting guards and only 3 small forwards. Moving him to small forward on your chart makes our needs more glaring.

Cannot stress enough that Pence is not a 4 but Pedon seems to want to use him that way, subbing him in for Klew most of the time last season. He's a wing and needs to be learning from Skunberg this season.

The final spot needs to go to an experienced 4, regardless of level. Juco, D2, NAIA, doesn't matter. Someone with size and a knack for rebounding.

I'll update the eligibility tracker today. Good news is, after this coming season, the COVID extra year is over, so it should be easier to track.
