Mike VandeGuarde and Skip Schaefbauer were All Minneapolis Metro Player of the Year, but I can’t think of any Mr Basketball. Eric Bush (I think) was Indiana Co Mr Basketball, but he never put on a Redbird uniform. Was highly anticipating seeing he play for the Birds.
Further research, Wikipedia, says Schaefbauer WAS Mr. Basketball in Minnesota in 1993. Who knew?

DePere won in the semi's last night, and will play for the Division 1 championship tonight around 8:15. And trying to go undefeated. Against Hartland Arrowhead.

Kinziger had 15, has had better days. DePere didn't play a great game, but did what they needed to down the stretch. JK was 4-13 from the field, 0-4 from 3, 7-7 FT's, leading rebounder with 9. But he "looked" good, if that makes any sense.

Kinziger doesn't play with the ball in his hands all the time, if you know what I mean. Their offense involves some passing and screening and so he moves w/o the ball quite a bit and is on the wing and so forth. He's put together pretty well, not a skinny little guy.

Any way to stream the game tonight?

Earlier tournament games were pay-per-view on NFHS, same outfit that carries Illinois HS games. It looks like the championship games are live online at one of the local TV stations carrying live (I could be wrong). But, I can see it on my laptop now on our local station's website for the Division 4 game. So it should be okay.

Leading scorer on the State Championship team and Mr. Basketball. His scoring wasn't selfish, very much in the flow of the game. He has great court vision and is a good on-ball defender. Since the Birds are recruiting from the next two classes- Will H of '24 has really good touch around the rim and his spin move in the post leads to an easy bucket or a foul each time. Johnny's little brother, Zach had HUGE momentum plays and is an ELITE defender as a sophomore. I'd be thrilled to keep all of them as Redbirds for the next 4, 5 and 6 years.

I'm 100% fine if Pedon decides to give the keys to Johnny a la Plee in his freshman year. There will be some growing pains, sure but this kid has it. I've used the comp before but he reminds me a lot of Nic Moore. His composure is great. The program will be in good hands with JK at the helm.

Not sure how tall John is, but little brother is definitely taller. Both have a quick front step. Arrowhead was bigger and stronger, but the Redbirds held their on with their overall speed and backcuts.

Let the De Pere pipeline begin. He reminds me of SIU Mullins. He had a small bad stretch in the second half starting when he tried to pull up 3 to answer them back, but otherwise A very fundamental kid. Lil bros a player too. Maybe its time for their coach to experience life as a college assistant after 16 years at that level? 😉

Only in Merica can a fan of ISU, watch a Wisconsin HS championship game, featuring a future MVC POY, playing in a big 10 arena, on a tablet in Arizona, using the nearby Mexican internet service for free as part of the wall buyback program, while watching two big ten teams lose on TV, after grilling out dinner, and then enjoying the medical peace pipe. What a Country!

Do you know if Coach Pedon was at the game?

Just a gut feeling from watching numerous games on tape, it may take John a month or two to adjust to D1, but by conference season he will be the point guard we have been hoping for since Nic Moore left. As talented as Moore was, and he sure passed the eye test out of the box, but it even took him a few months to adjust.
