It doesn't appear Sean Allen is back
Good point. I saw that he was not listed but I did not say anything hoping that it was a situation in a state of flux. Allen participated in early spring practice, and he was mentioned in the Pantagraph article last week as a returning running back. I hope that he is still here, and he decides to return to practice after spring break. If he doesn't return, we would need to consider negating the move of Nigel White to cornerback. We know that '22 running backs P.Brown, Lampkin and Logan are not returning for '23. If you add Allen to the list of departed RB's, then we are getting thin at a position that is ripe for injuries. If you look at the SIU game last year, we had both Mueller and Wright out with injuries. Lampkin, Brown and White combined for 18 carries as RB's #3, 4 and 5, so we go through a lot of backs.
If Nigel White returns to RB from CB it does leave the CB position thin. Right now I project the cornerback starters as Cannon and Bowens. It's unclear how much help White would be at CB. It's late in his career to learn a new position. I still consider CB as a recruiting priority for '23, and in the never-ending cycle of recruiting there is still time for it be addressed. I've harped on it being a priority along with WR, but thus far the coaching staff has not listed it as a concern.

It doesn't appear he plans to return. His twitter bio says he is in the transfer portal. Obviously, there's always an outside chance but unlikely. Sucks for the RB group, but we should be okay. Mueller, Wright, Blakemore, Ficklin, Robinson. If we lose 2 of our primary ballcarriers, then I think we would see Nigel back at RB. Could also see us adding a late JUCO, D-II or D-III transfer for depth.

That's a Power 5 but Mueller isn't taking any contact this spring (or in August) and Robinson isn't here yet. That leaves just 3 active RB's at present. Bring White back to RB. I'll sleep easier next fall if we have another veteran RB.

Yes, that's pretty thin but I would leave White at DB. If he's needed at RB he can flip back over. He can pick RB back up in about 10 minutes.

Yep, it s spring ball. Time to try some things out, really is no harm giving White a chance in the defensive backfield during spring sessions.

Spring ball for all schools. Then there's a new portal window, so a new batch of players will be on the market. An opportunity to bring in some players but also another chance to lose some.

Just the current nature of college football. A never-ending merry-go-round! This is a tough time to be a college football coach!
