The ncaa, in their infinite wisdom, really stuck it to bradley. And they did Drake no favors. I will be rooting for our Valley mates but I won't be holding my breath.

Huh? Drake is playing a 5 seed with one of its best players questionable to play heading into the the tournament. Not sure I understand how they did Drake no favors. Pretty favorable draw, IMO.

One of the experts took Drake into the Sweet 16. I hope they do well.
I also hope BU beats Wisconsin up there. My disdain for the B10 in the postseason is more than it is for BU.
I cannot believe I said that.

It would've been nice to get a second team in the NIT. SIU had the same record as a MSU team that got an at large bid last year.

I believe a school PAYS $50-60,000 to play in the CBI.

What is the CBI?

The CBI is a postseason tournament for teams not picked in the NCAA tournament or the NIT that are also willing to pay a $27,500 entry fee to participate. It's operated by The Gazelle Group, which runs a handful of basketball events: the Barstool Sports Invitational, Empire Classic, Gotham Classic, Legends Classic and Tribute Classic. All of the participants in those in-season events qualify for the CBI as long as they finish .500 or better. USI's participation in the Gotham Classic this season, along with its .500 finish, allowed it to receive the invitation.

so with a $30 average ticket, just for the entry fee you'd have to sell just over 900 tickets. Then you have the factor in security/concessions ect. I bet the over all expenditure to host a game is around that 40K mark, when the entry fee alone is 27.5. But if you get 2,000 in the stands at least, probably break even, any more people and it probably turns a profit. I could see how a young team could use the extra practice and gain fan momentum would play in it.

Bradley can beat a bad Wisconsin team.
Couple thoughts -

UW is very schizo this season - someone referenced the heartbreaker vs. Kansas early on, also late the 2 point home loss to Purdue, 1 point home loss to Rutgers, 2 point home loss and 3 point road loss to Northwestern, 3 point home loss to Wake Forest. Then there's the 3 point road win vs. Marquette, 5 point neutral win vs. So. Cal., sweep of Iowa. 9-6 at home, 5-6 on the road. They've played some tough teams tough but have let some get away that they should have had in the bag.

UW kinda lacks a "go to" guy. They had Johnny Davis last year, wanted Reeves really bad, as the above margins show, they had chances in several games but couldn't get a bucket when they needed one. No different than a lot of teams, if the threes are falling, they can be in business. But too often, come up empty. PG Chucky Hepburn is over 40% from three, but he can take some damn funky shots in the final minutes in an effort to "get one up".

Not a strong inside team, not strong on the boards. Last in the conference in offensive boards, rebounding margin, blocked shots.(Near the bottom on several offensive stats). I kinda think if he's halfway together, Mast should have his way with the Badgers. Short bench for the Badgers - 4 guys play over 30 minutes per game, only 6 play 20 or more. If one of the starters gets in foul trouble, they have problems.

Not clear to me how much of a home court advantage UW will have. Neither of my two seatmates wants to go, or can go. So I won't go either. UW has had some attendance issues all year. The game is posted for an 8:30pm tip. There've been quite a few 8pm tips this year and it hasn't gone over all that well with the faithful. I've sat thru many games that look half full at best.

Anyhoo, I'd bet on BU, sad to say. Altho the Bad-gers may get fussed up to finally win a game and win a few in a row. Hard to say.

UW is 7-12 since Jan. 1. Kinda fallen apart down the stretch. Some injuries have hurt, but then, that gets back to the short bench.

The entire tourney is in Florida:

Discount Tire College Basketball Invitational which takes place March 18-22, 2023 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Florida

Did not realize that. Sucks that you don't earn any real income from it. Other than a young team getting extra practice and the benefit of it being a tournament style format. But it also will show off players to other colleges who could come in and swoop up players since anyone can transfer now, and more leagues involved will see tape on those players who might not be looking. A good showing by a freshman or sophomore could get them to a bigger school with an almost guarantee to play in the big boy tourney.

Hope you can see this article, not sure if it's behind a paywall. Has numbers re: NIT payouts.

But in pure dollar value, an NIT game this season is worth $5,220 per side.
Both the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team and Bradley will get that amount for playing Tuesday night's first-round game at the Kohl Center. The Badgers can take home more for hosting, but that amount so far is undetermined, according to UW and NCAA spokespeople.

The payouts are:
• $5,220 to the 16 teams that lose in the first round.
• $10,440 to the eight teams that lose in the second round.

• $15,660 to the four teams that lose in the quarterfinals.
• $26,100 to the four teams that qualify for the semifinals in Las Vegas.
