Next up is the second of a two-game road trip to Cedar Falls, Iowa

The Redbirds are alone in ninth place in conference at 3-5 (8-11 overall) whereas the Panthers are in a five-way tie for fourth place at 5-3 in conference (9-9 overall), one game out of first place.

The teams matched up on New Year's Eve in Normal as UNI won, 66-60. The teams also share five common opponents and are both 3-2 against them: they have both been victorious versus Evansville; the Redbirds defeated Belmont and Missouri State; the Panthers won over Murray State and Southern Illinois.

The Redbirds are led in scoring and assists by Darius Burford (10.9, 2.3); Seneca Knight (10.6) and Kendall Lewis (10.6) also average double digits (additionally, Lewis leads in rebounding (6.6)). The Panthers are led in scoring and assists by Bowen Born (19.2, 2.7); Tytan Anderson is the only other healthy player averaging double figures (13.7) and he also leads in rebounding (9.7). ISU generally goes ten deep on any given night whereas UNI goes eight.

According to NET Ranking, the Redbirds (241) toughest opponent was Southern Illinois (100, loss), their best win was against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (124) and their worst loss was to Illinois-Chicago (273); the Panthers (193) toughest opponent was Bradley (77, loss), their best win was against Southern Illinois (100) and their worst loss was to McNeese State (334).

UNI's biggest strength is field goal percentage (45.6%) although they do not shoot free throws particularly well (66.1%).

Although I am "projecting" (hoping) we stay close, I honestly believe Northern Iowa will shoot us out of the McLeod Center.

Panthers 70, Redbirds 65

If anyone is coming to the game, just be aware that crappy weather is coming in to the Cedar Falls area on Wednesday.

Frostbite Falls is just NE of Grinnell for those who don't know on the snow map above, so probably a couple inches of snow forecast.

I just watched a Des Moines tv station and it looks like the snow should hit Cedar Falls close to 6pm tomorrow night and they are predicting about
4.8 inches.

Hopefully no delay because a reschedule later in the year means a more healthy Born.

It was postponed because of a Covid outbreak in Northwestern’s program, not the weather.
And Wisconsin's game at NU Saturday was also cancelled/postponed (or will be, UW Coach Gard said this on his post-game show tonight). Covid. Maybe Sunday, otherwise??

But anyway, I'm just supporting the Covid reason.

Not just Covid, but NU has injuries as well. Think I saw they currently have 6 players that could go.
