An okay first half. They had 4 bad minutes, but it wasn’t at the start of the game like usual. 11 Birds have played. Weird lineup to end the half with Johnson and Andrews out there. Pretty physical game when the ball goes inside. Their big kid should have 4 fouls. Hopefully, the Birds heat up from Trey. Ball State shot 50% from 3 on that end.

Not a criticism, just an observation. I like how many hard working role players we have that come in off the bench. The problem is this year we have to start some hard working role players.

We really need Lewis to stop taking himself out of games. Picks up too many bad fouls and he can't do that. Still like where the team is heading. This was a tough game because of the foul trouble we got in. Also, Petrakis needs to not see the floor much. The ball sticks in his hands then he shoots. Always seems to think before he shoots as well like he knows he should make a one or two step dribble and pass but decides to throw it up.

I actually felt the game take a turn in the other direction when he was in, only because of his shot selection. He’s a big big dude. I’m not saying never take a deep shot but he need to at least get to the free throw line from being on the blocks. I’d love to see Mal playing more in the pick and roll.

That game was extremely physical and ISU just did not have enough of those type of players to keep up.
I am not aware of any team in the MVC that plays that style. It was one slash after another for both teams to the hoop.
The number of bodies on the floor had to be a record for this season and for many seasons.
A player like Liam who can block a few shots would have helped, but I don't believe he changes the result.
We can be a .500 team in the Valley. If we can win a few close ones maybe 11-9 is a possibility.
GO BIRDS!

So Schmidt starts vs SIU-E and plays a pretty decent 12 minutes. Then today he's past up for everyone including Andrews? I don't get that.

Also one of the reasons Lewis was in foul trouble was he was asked to guard Sparks some. That is a BIG ask.

Regarding Sparks, he flopped on a block call. Not sure why the refs didn't hit him up for the flop as well. Maybe it has to be one or the other, but this whole flop thing is puzzling.

Need Petrakis to hit those wide open looks too. His ability to stretch the defense and bring a big out to cover him opens up alot. He's certainly not bashful to put em up.

I don't think we are good enough to win multiple games without Liam. He does too much for us.

Good to see Malachi P bring some instant offense off the bench too. If he's not starting, it's nice to have that spark off the bench.
