Well Creighton is ranked 10th in the nation, recruiting got better for them once they left the Missouri valley for a lot of reasons and it should be a wake up call for Illinois State

Loyola is off to a TERRIBLE start. They just rounded off their Myrtle Beach appearance 0-3!

Illinois State hasn’t responded to any of the previous wake up calls, I don’t hold out much hope that they’ll do the right things now.

What denomination? I sort of like Flip Wilson’s Church of What’s Happening Now.
Scientology, aliens will come and save us all or what ever crap they talk about and Tom Cruise will jump out of an airplane onto the tarp on top of RBA and repel from the ceiling to his courtside couch every game.

ISU about to be last man standing in what was once a great conference.
Rhetorical question, but how did this conference fall so far. Wow.

Last commish didn't seize the Butler, Dayton, Xavier early 2000 midwest come ups. Would Butler and Xavier have left for the Big East if Creighton stayed? Wichita never would have never left

Butler
Creighton
Dayton
Southern Illinois
Bradley made the Sweet 16
Xavier

What ifs

Tulsa made it to the sweet sixteen in back to back years in the Missouri Valley in 1994 and 1995. They jumped conferences and have had 2 ncaa appearances with no tournament wins in the last 20 years.
The once dominant DePaul jumped to the major conference scene and have had 1 ncaa tournament win in the last 23 years.

But have made a lot more money than they would have in the a10? Mvc? Aac?

There are a lot of things in the latter days of the Doug Elgin regime that could have been done differently. You can certainly make a case that the MVC would at least be at or above the current level of the A10. But none of that would have kept Butler, Creighton or Xavier from the Big East.

Drake isn't going anywhere because they do not deliver a perceived gain on their own, and there is currently not a need for conference fortification somewhere else (ala LUC to the A10). Another round of poaching and it may be a different story.

I totally understand the money and the recognition by jumping to bigger conferences, but I was just pointing out from a winning point of view it's not that simple. My guess is Gonzaga will eventually jump to a bigger conference and their recruiting and winning will not be as good.

The biggest issue I had with Elgin - he ignored football and for whatever reason could not seem to figure out that sport drives the "bus" for college athletics - thus, the Valley only continued to slide and now is close to being irrelevant, if we are not already there.

Totally disagree. Gonzaga is a national brand. If/when they end up in the Big 12, they’ll continue to be as successful as they are now.
