I believe both NDSU and SDSU have had players leave via the portal - pretty sure Bison lost top line QB and LB this year, maybe more.

The majority of the athletes are leaving was to play in the post season . Being on a team that doesn't play not to lose to win. They desire to play on a team that will make the postseason in the FCS or most likely FBS schools that even with a losing record you get to play in a bowl. As well as better name recognition for the draft. Once again North Dakota State, South Dakota state are not having these problems the kids want to stay there because they know they're going to win not play not to lose.
You need to be .500 to be bowl eligible unless they cannot fill the bowl games with .500 teams

I believe Wagner had a stress fracture or something of that nature. Came back sooner than predicted.
I think Wagner has a bright future, hopefully with us. Just a freshman, so room for improvement in consistency.

Carson Camp in the transfer portal. Thoughts on pursuing him for QB2?
Things can change fast. After playing the entire game against ISU earlier this season Camp was replaced in the next game against SIU and did not play much the rest of the year. My guess would be he has absolutely zero interest in being QB #2 anywhere. He is probably looking for a starting job. It would be nice to have him but I doubt he would be interested.

I think he potentially would be interested in a QB2 spot because he tweeted mentioning he has a RS season + 2 years of eligibility. I doubt that he would be very interested in redshirting unless it were at an FBS (MAC) school, BUT it is pretty easy to RS as a #2 QB at an FCS as long as the starter stays healthy. I believe there could definitely be other motivations for transferring rather than wanting an immediate starting spot. He may want a change of scenery where he has a defined role or the opportunity to compete with a fresh start. It isn't fun being benched and can leave a sour taste returning to the same coaching staff. I wouldn't completely rule it out personally

Treshawn Watson and J'Kalon Carter have entered the portal. Will desperately need to reload at WR next year.

Losing our #3 receiver from 2021 (Khepera)
Once promising young 6'3" WR (Watson)
Another promising WR who started season strong (Carter)
3 of our top 7 receivers graduating (Taula, Deming, and Annexstad)

You never know. He was a starter from his first college game. One of the articles I attached mentioned he entered the portal right after the SD AD announced the coach's contract would be extended. Sounds to me that he knew the writing was on the wall. He was benched in favor of the #2 QB and the #2 became the #1 for the rest of the SIU game and the next four games. Camp has been the starter since the 2020 Covid season.
I would look at his tweet as telling prospective teams he has a lot of football left to give them, three seasons potentially. Lots of players in the portal have a year or two of eligibility. He probably never had to sit the bench ever in his playing career until this season. He definitely never sat the bench as a college FCS player. Maybe he wants to come home, maybe not. As I said it would be nice to have him. I cant see into his head but I would guess he wants to be a starter.

Might be hard to just give him a starting spot after losing his spot at USD but imo its worth checking out to see if he would come back home and compete and learn, think he would definitely fit in good as a Redbird.

Zero interest in a QB #2 from USD. Go get a FBS transfer to compete for QB #1. No one's position should be safe.
Zero interest? USD's QB #2 has significantly better stats than ISU's QB #1 from 2019-2021. In the Fall of 2021, he led USD to their first winning record and playoff appearance since 2017. He is big part of the reason his coach got an extension. His Fall 2021 season was on par with Annexstad's 2022 season.

Yeah. Go get a FBS transfer that's better than both of them. I don't think either one gets us to Frisco.

It's hard to credibly compare seasons of quarterbacks without mentioning the names Coprich, Warrium, Meredith and O'Shaughnessey.

I'm reading about recruiting players as a starter or a #2 and that is not how most college coaches approach it. Most college coaches talk to recruits about COMPETING for a starting job. They want all players to do that. Coaches almost never tell someone they will or won't start. You earn or don't earn a job when you come in.
A recruit can look at the roster and the coach may help them by letting them know what they have coming back at a certain position. And the coach may add that he thinks you have what it takes to play right away but a quality coach isn't going to promise you anything except a chance to compete.
