I am worried about our immediate future. This team is full of a bunch of role players (at their ceiling). The 3 signees for next year don't overly impress me either. At least with Dan's recruits they were athletic and big enough to physically handle the game. They just lacked a lot of basketball sense most of the time and he was unable to develop them into basketball players, but we were rarely overmatched athletically. We will be athletically overmatched all year by everyone we play and we don't shoot well enough to overcome that. I am not writing off Pedon yet, but I hope we at least get to see some of his coaching skill, and then hopefully he can start to attract the physical characteristics that are needed.
I mostly agree with your post....I realize this is a rebuild year as is next year. What I didn't understand, the rebuild is nothing but Junior's and Seniors. How does that work as a rebuild? I understand, this is game 5, still feeling each other out, but, with that upper classman maturity, I was really hoping for more. I am the glass is half full type of person, it is a start of a long season, lots of games to go, looking for improvement

It's not like he had a choice. You take what you can get to fill a roster when you get hired in March. Half the scholarship players on the roster are Muller holdovers, many of which are bringing very little to the table, so this is going to take time. I like the incoming class a lot. It will be interesting to see what transfers Pedon sprinkles in to complete his first true recruiting class.

What about the new class do you like so much?
-- I worry that Kinziger is too small
-- I worry that Walker won't be athletic enough
-- I worry that Pence will wind up being another Matt Chastain (Dominate small school BB)

I would be more concerned if we were getting our doors blown off in Valley games than these non conference games. Under Muller, how many times did we go toe to toe with an athletic power 5 team to then look below average against less athletic Valley competition later in the season.

I think this years team will match up much better in Valley play. Maybe I am not being realistic though.

I've seen enough video of the first and third players against quality AAU competition to not be concerned. Walker is obviously a big dude and the wild card of the three, but I sure would like to have a legit big man for the first time in I don't know how long.

Ryan Schmitt with a triple double. 2 minutes, 2 fouls, 2 TO.

I think the Birds still lose but 1-13 from 3 in the first with some really quality shots. If they could've made 5 instead of 1, it could've been a more competitive game and maybe gave them some more spark in the second half. Oh, well. Short memory. Go be competitive tomorrow.

I was thinking that it was strange Pedon kept the starters/rotation guys in for so long but then when giving it more thought, maybe he's still trying to get the guys used to playing each other in a game as well as working through who works well together.

Knight was a liability in the first half but really played a solid second. Showed glimpses of what he can be.

Hopefully, Luke is just a 24-hour bug and can provide some minutes tomorrow.

A lot of the guys Pedon brought in have 3 years left even if listed as Juniors. Petrakis has 2. Knight and Sandage are done after this year. I’d expect to see more Muller guys gone after this year. I like the incoming guys but I’m not sure any are day 1 contributors. We need immediate help especially at the 5. Even if Chase is the answer I can’t see him ready day 1.

Completely agree. Our lack of a true big or two is is something this team is sorely missing. Hopefully Pedon will find another solid big in the portal next spring.

Geez-us, people. Have some patience. Give the man a chance. Let his team get its feet under it. The corpse is hardly even cold yet on the last guy!

?????

Nobody is calling for Pedon. The team was woefully unprepared today and the first half shows it. Dangerous trend and habits of not playing hard for 40 minutes. All same complaints we had the past 4 years. Pedon has plenty of time, but it’s time to start showing something.

Don’t think any of us expected us to win but it’s hard not to be frustrated seeing Murray State upset Texas AM and other first years guy that have made significant roster changes show more signs of success.
