Maybe we're just playing to our competition. Sure the first few games will be full of struggles but we will play perfect and crush LSU.

Our bigs have a chance to roll to the basket after they throw the pick at the top and the screener doesn’t roll to the hoop! They stop. Crazy
I’m seeing the same thing. That’s something I believe we will see just befor conference games starts.

Kotov is fascinating to me, after his first season I was told he had problems with Dan and would be transferring. That never materialized and then he sat on the bench ALL of last season and never appeared in a game even once. Pedon takes over and now he is actually getting 5-10 minutes a game? I thought I had heard the reason he stayed was because nobody else in the country was really looking for a player like him and obliviously going back to Russia in the past few years wasn’t a smart move either given everything going on over there.

That being said, as it relates to this year’s team his minutes would be better served going to Schmdit/Sissouku once he gets healthy. He just constantly takes himself out of plays, doesn’t get back on defense, and doesn’t contribute anything we can’t get from somebody else.

I think they are not rolling because they want a spot up 3. They may begin to mix it up and start rolling to the hoop but I think Liam and Joe are more comfortable in the perimeter

"I was expecting to get an opportunity because I didn't get an opportunity last season," said Kotov, who had four points and four rebounds against Wooster. "With the new coaching staff coming in and how they handled themselves and the team in the spring, I really liked it.

"I liked how they were rolling with us and I decided to take a risk and come back ... the new coaching staff believes in me way more than the previous coaching staff. It's all about the work you put in every day."

I agree that I don’t think we are showing all our cards on offense. Also agree that most of our bigs are more comfortable in the perimeter. Hoping we have an option though that allows a roll to the basket either on the ball side or maybe off the ball screen and roll to the opposite block.

My guess is he is putting the basics on film and then adding options.

So, then, are you expecting Power 5 teams, whether in Illinois or not, to come to CEFCU/RA? Expect Big East DePaul or Big 10+ UIUC or NU to visit?
No. I am expecting to have early season games against the "other" teams but at our place. Read what I wrote - I have no problem going to Rosemont, Evanston, or Chambana. Even during a rebuild, we should be above spending a school night driving back-and-forth to Lantz YMCA.

I find it hard to believe that the guy who was running the offense for a perennial top 25 team to accept this as his offense. I really don't think he's showing his hand yet.
I tend to believe this as well. At least, kind of. Pedon has talked about letting these guys struggle in the early going this season in order to find out who they really are. Talked about throwing them in the fire, now, and not bailing them out...so that they're prepared come conference time.

I really don't know. 2 things I've seen so far.

1. Lewis is the heart of our team and the only player who has stood out. You can't help but become an immediate fan of this kid just by watching his effort. I hope he continues to improve.
2. We are not very good at all. At this point.

Yes, count me among the "mildly disappointed/not very impressed" with last night's performance. I hope Burford's just trying too hard - 0-7 from the floor, 4 TO's. Seneca Knight's on his 4th college program, hope he's not a stereotype. Liam searching for his role (and Coach P also searching for it?). Poindexter, Kasubke, Petrakis, Lewis all looked like "helpers".

From the snark department:

Was the "TV" production team the same as does the ISU games for Marquee Network? Could they have gotten a camera location/shot farther away from the court? Could hardly see the numbers or identify the players.

Okay, I have needed to lose some weight for years, but come on Marty . . . . .

I posted elsewhere a comment about playing at EIU. Let's face it, that was a big game for them, a big visitor came to town, they were up for it. Not a comfortable spot for Coach P to be in or to put the players in, but they've gotta grow into it. Anyway, other visitors to EIU this year include NIU, Ball State, so you know, we're not so special.
At least the announcer was a good listen, though he barely took a breath. Very descriptive call

Yeah, Marty rarely got off his chair

7'er in a fox hole seems a bad situation. Glad he gets to hang out here and ball instead. He is a good 5 minute guy.

Someone mentioned Sissoko. What's his story? Seems he would fit in somewhere. 🤷

That's not what he said at all. He specifically said he's ok with playing Chicago St, SIUE, WIU, and EIU, but play them at home only.

Everyone else, play them wherever.
Well just played at EIU..so much for that

He is a guard not a post. Get over it.
