It's one game.... but taking a dump at home against Western after a 13-point lead ain't exactly a resume builder. It'll take some time, we'll get there, Coach!

If we would have had some dude playing the anthem on guitar we would have won.

The most disappointing thing about the game was I went to the bathroom at the 18:42 mark of the second half and returned at the 14:26 mark only to find out a Western fan stole my swagger. Wish someone would have called timeout to stop him.

We were thinking the same thing. A time out at that point might have helped. Shoulda. Coulda. Woulda. Didn't.

It drives me NUTZ when rebounders and outlet man don't immediately have their head up seeing the floor. Sounds ridiculous but that first half a second from rebound into transition is EVERYTHING. It can give you 10 quick (and sometimes easy) pts a game. Things have to be happening even before rebounder hits the floor!

-I was def satisfied with our rebounding.
-One of our major players has ZERO court awareness.
-Kendall, despite the last minute (he DEFINITELY doubled), was the heart of the team tonight.

It almost felt like we didn't want to go on fastbreaks yesterday. I'm hoping that's a bug and not a feature, especially as everyone on the team looked tight and forcing everything for game one. Lets hope the next few look much better.

So much for the “cupcake” schedule. With all the player movements every year who knows who will be good or not. Last not was definitely not historical redbird basketball unless your horizon is the last five years.

How DISAPPOINTING! Didn't sleep well after that one - can only imagine how the staff muddled that one over trying to
get some shut eye.

Pedon/staff had done a wonderful job in building some goodwill in community during off-season and just hate it we didn't deliver an Impressive W
for the crowd. Man, that hurts in establishing yourself in B/N.

Not mentioning names.....we had several who didn't show up last night. Very concerning as everyone has D1 Experience so jitters and such shouldn't last too long.

Bird fans please help me understand. Burford was called for a T for flopping??? If so, Coach P yanks him and plays him sparingly after the T. Flopping must be a real big deal to Coach. I do know that Burford is the one kid who likes to run and can lead a break - not saying that lost us the game but that young man is our pulse on Offense.

Now, can our Beloved Birds actually jump on a Bus and win a game on the road? Many from this roster haven't experienced Bus Wins.......

Was plenty disappointed watching that one. After sleeping on it, a few random thoughts:

It's one game. It's the first game of a brand new regime and new roster, etc. Fine. Okay. But that excuse ends there.

PROS:

- Looked better during the times we tried some tempo instead of standing around
- We have some athletes...when they play under control
- Did a good job getting to the FT line
- Some semblance of atmosphere in the arena, albeit not a ton to cheer about

CONS:

- Most of the first half looked like a pickup game at the Y
- Couldn't fight through a screen with a roadmap
- Didn't guard the perimeter
- Gave up too many open looks
- Sloppy ball control
- Lazy passing
- Hopefully Poindexter isn't hurt too bad

We'll see how much of that can be fixed before facing the mighty Panthers in Chucktown on Thursday.

Why didn't Kotev play in the 2nd half? He had 4 rebounds in 5 minutes in the 1st half. We really shortened the bench it felt like in the 2nd half.

The BRMM had Handcock Stadium (according to Marquee) rockimg. Bring them back

We brought back fist bumping the refs during starting lineup

Blew an opportunity for the first successful inbound play in a decade in the first half. Lewis was wide open at the rim

Did Knight study under Ggggreg? He's got that head snap whenever there's any contact in his blood.

I like the new PA guy, but the sound guy needs to work on directing his call to the upper bowl. Sat in the lower for the exhibition game and could hear him just fine, but in the upper bowl its just muddy. Could understand about a third of what he said. Might be due to his baritone voice.

Lots to work on. Western set the tone physically for most of the game. When we did, we ran up the score, but for the most part we were outworked. We do a good job screening in the paint to open lanes. As Cpacmel said, how do you leave a guy with 22 wide open from 3 late?

-This was my thought we were up 13 with 18 minutes left and in a span of 3 minutes WIU came back was down 1. We had 3 timeouts you could've used one. I understand wanting to let your guys learn and play through it but you also had 6 transfers who are playing together for the first time and a few who in Burford who was playing in home state and Sandage playing for ISU at home against his former team where they looked nervous.

- I am not down but also think that we shouldn't lose at home to WIU ever. The team played hard but did let up during that 3-4 minute stretch. My concern with the offense is they need to learn how to play with each other and find what they can do. My one fear with this team is there's not much of a difference from your best player to the 3rd guy off the bench. I love the guys and everyone on the roster but in a close game the last 4 minutes who is the go to guy to get us a bucket, who can we lean on to get to the line? That is where I think this team will struggle at.

I think we saw some good players have bad games. It happens. WIU made a couple more plays at the end

I saw a lot of positives too. This is gonna take time.
more fun to watch than in years past, we lost but I like this team.

Glad someone else saw that. I tweeted about it right after it happened. It was only on the screen for a second or two, someone on the production crew must've had an "oh shit" moment and cleared the screen.

Sound & cameras were screwy too. It's just like football games. I don't know if it's Marquee or Learfield or a student crew doing the production but our broadcasts always look & sound like HS game film from 30 years ago. It's great to have games televised of course, but none of them ever look right.
