If UCLA and USC join the Big Ten in 2024, as they are negotiating to do, it has the potential to cost ISU a lot of money if the addition of at least one more Big Ten conference football game(s) causes our non-con buy games at Iowa and at the illini to be scrubbed; it won't affect this Fall's Wisconsin game, because those additions to the Big Ten, if they happen, would not occur until 2024.

When the realignment ends, there probably won't be an NCAA as an organization, because three or four conferences will control all of the $$$ and TV contracts.

2 conferences. The entire Pac 10-12 is calling the Big Ten as we speak!

Adios North Dakota State South Dakota state North Dakota South Dakota to the Mountain West or PAC 10. Illinois state should move to up as well but you guys are rather be in your yards raking leaves or watching a soccer game then going the Illinois State football games. Good Lord I love to go see Illinois State play in Florida if they join any conference other than Missouri Valley like the Conference USA or the aac.

I agree that we should be watching the landscape but no move to a junk conference just to move

Big 10, SEC , and fans of schools that will be included are liking this. Don't worry, ISU will have ZERO part in any of this.
I actually think there are plenty of fans of those schools that don't like this, and especially how much dough they'll have to cough up to attend games in the future. But they'll keep doing it because . . . because . . . . well, because.

Two points - one, I'm a UW season ticket holder and donor. So I know there's at least one not liking it. Two, I hope you can get to this article, I'm not the only one.

Most fans are watching these games on TV. I'm sure money is a non issue for the fans who are holding season tickets and attending road games.

In the end, it will come down to a couple of conferences playing for a "National Championship". Hopefully, then the rest of us can go back to watching college athletics that somehow, someway resemble college athletics.

This fall ISU, William and Mary, and Tulane. And well of course ISU @ Madison. Little or no hassle. Great towns with something to offer in addition to football.

I'm guessing Kansas and Notre Dame to the BiG10 will be the next shoes to drop, with perhaps some swap of UNC and Mizzou as well if Clemson, Miami, and FSU go SEC.

In that case, and total spitballing here, could there be some incarnation of 'Birds, Iowa State, K-State, Okie State, Missouri St., UNI, NIU, the Dakotas, St. Thomas?

Admittedly, unrealistic, but just some weekend chatter.

I assume the Oregon & Washington schools could do something with Boise, The Arizona Schools, Colorado Schools (+Air Force) Utah, BYU, Wyoming (maybe Hawaii?)

The Texas schools other than UT and A&M form a Lone Star Conference

I did not ever think there would be a day when USC and UCLA would be in the Big 10 (or Big 35 maybe by the time this ends). Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC. Yes, there is no doubt in my mind we are watching the end of college football as we knew it. Too much money not for it to happen but sad to watch. Notre Dame kept the USC game for the west coast scouting exposure and tradition. That long-time rivalry is in jeopardy I would think. ND is going to have to make a move as well almost certainly. People who wanted a true national championship played on the field will get it now. Probably a small amount of super conferences whose champions will meet in a playoff that is not chosen by a committee.

FCS almost certainly changes coming here as well. I have no idea what that will look like but probably be much different. I personally don't like it but time moves on and things change. I think with the changes, all dollar-driven, it is time, to be honest about college football. Players are now being paid and recruited based on NIL, or in truth how much they can make at a given university. I think most people can see where this will lead in the near future. Conferences really mean nothing anymore. The NCAA is a dead man walking. Players are leaving early and switching teams more frequently than most people change socks. Just for the sake of honesty, something missing totally from college sports, I think they should just make college football teams a profit-making arm of the colleges, and eliminate the need for players to look like they are going to class for an education (they can get it if they want or not). The players become official employees of the university, which is what they are in reality, the universities continue raking in millions with no thought to education at all and everyone jumps to whatever team they want, whenever they want. People in Texas are probably gearing up for NIL payments in high school football!

Okay...done with my rant. Happy 4th of July Redbird fans!

Kansas is not getting an invite to the Big Ten.
You may be right but if the Big Ten doesn't take them then Kansas will try to get in the SEC. The SEC is already the favorite to win the College Football Playoff. If the SEC gets Kansas that gives them a 1-2 punch of Kansas/Kentucky along with several other strong entries in the NCAA basketball tournament. Raking in TV/media revenue is great but if the SEC is winning more National Championships on the field and on the court than the Big 35 then they get the trophies and the bragging rights.

As a UW fan would you rather be a part of the coast to coast Big 10 or a regional Big 12? Some of the commenters are stuck in tradition of the Rose Bowl. That tradition got turned over awhile ago. If I recall, UW played TCU in the Rose Bowl. Talk about non traditional. When this shakes out UW will still get their rivalry games with Minny, Iowa, and Nebraska. This might actually help UW get in the football play off. This will force the play off to expand. UWs chances making it how it stands is almost zero.
