Yale recruits JC's??? Wow.
I believe his Yale offer came prior to him going the JUCO route. It looks like he only played 1 year at TJC and would have 3 years of eligibility. Could potentially redshirt a year as well depending on the health Annexstad and Waring's status.

Can never have enough quarterbacks on a roster and Brady Davis seems to think highly of the kid. Hopefully that gives us a leg up on others and he can get in here.

RB Mar'Keise Irving, from Minnesota Gophers, is entering the portal. He played HS ball at Hillcrest. I have to believe he has his sights set higher than ISU, but will throw his name out there since he's a local kid.

Boise State QB transfer. Had offers from Boise State and Toledo coming out of high school (maybe others). Originally from California. Entered the portal on April 18th. Has 4 years to play

Can never have too many QB’s

We may not get all the transfers we want before summer but that doesn't mean game over. Not only are these players and more available, but the portal is also getting an influx of new players as spring ball and the school year winds down. Not everyone will find a new home in time for summer classes. I think some of these transfer decisions will come late - like July or August.
Some posters are predicting doom and gloom for the have-nots like Illinois State, but it hasn't happened yet, and I'm not sure that it will. The portal overflowing with players is the equivalent of a labor supply eruption. Eruption leads to chaos and misallocation of talent. I know everyone anticipates the major powers soaking up all the good transfers but that assumes that we know who the best transfers are. The NFL invests a fortune in time and effort to determine the best players and even so GOAT QB Tom Brady wasn't drafted until the 6th round while countless 1st and 2nd round QBs were busts. If the NFL can't determine the best players then what chance does a college football coach have of determining the best transfers when some of them have been standing on the sidelines for the last couple of years!!? Our QB Zack Annexstad from Minnesota hasn't started a football game since 2018, but based on what I saw this spring I'd say he is clearly better than when he last started for the Gophers. We won that one, we need to score a few more. NILs and stadiums filled with 75,000 fans are great, but it all feels a little hollow when you only experience it from the sidelines. A lot of players are leaving FBS schools because they aren't playing. They may get offers from other FBS schools but those schools may only want them for depth. If they don't have any injuries at their position that player may be right back where they started which is on the bench. You have a choice. You can do what Annexstad did. You can find a team and make it your own. You can step out onto the field and do what you came to college to do, which is to play college football.

I do think summer OTAs are critical to working in with team leading into fall camp .. every bit helps.

Yes, we will get other transfers later, but the players I noted were players that would/should start next year. If they plan on starting next year, they needed to be here for summer. The only reason why they would transfer here is to start.

Some positions are plug and play if UR in football shape. WR, routes are routes. RB, everyone has run zone read. D-line, control your gap, and get upfield. Corner, Man is man, 2 is 2, 4 is 4. Oline, QB, LB, S, you have some assimulating to do. talent wins. Get it when and where you can.

Interesting article on the portal. A little splash of cold water really, for those who think the grass is always greener. This article summarizes the data pretty well, and at the end there's a link to the NCAA's own data, which is more extensive and interactive.

The bad news - only 34% of FCS transferers found a schollie "on the other side". Slightly better for FBS transfers.

Totally agree. If they wanted to enhance their chances of starting in '22 they should have hit the portal as soon as the '21 regular season ended so they could transfer in time for the 2nd semester and spring ball. Summer workouts are important but not nearly as important as organized spring ball. We know that a lot of players didn't do that. Madbird posted an article that said last year 129 college football players entered the portal in August of '21. That's an awkward time to make an entry. If any player is still in the portal or entering the portal between now and August '22 they have even more reason to consider a school like Illinois State. If you're transferring to a FBS school, you know those coaches are going to favor players that have been there through the spring and summer. If you go FCS, maybe raw talent will earn you a starting spot. If not the first game, then maybe later in the season.

3,600 + student athletes in the fb portal as of today .. That is a real and disturbing trend that can't support it's own weight. The NCAA FB board needs to take immediate and decisive action to save college football.

Quoting that Football Scoop article, "May 1 is the final day a fall or winter athlete can enter the Portal and remain eligible to compete for the 2022-23 athletic year."

Now I have no idea if this is right and when it applies. In the past, FBS could transfer to FCS and play immediately, even if they transferred in late summer. Does this rule prohibit transferring after May 1 and playing that fall? Or is that only for FBS to FBS, who would have had to sit for one year in the past?

Good catch, May 1 does mark the last day to enter the portal to be eligible for the '22 season*** so expect the spike of entries to last for a few more days. *** Of course, this being the NCAA there are exceptions to this rule and waivers have been given to players to play immediately after entering the portal well after May 1.

There are other things worth focusing on to save college football, but i think the one and done transfer rule is much more good than bad ... mainly because it allows student-athletes one do over, if things aren't working out.
