A site called barttorvic.com lists Reeves as the #1 available transfer at this point.

Chips are far from falling. Nobody is committing. You’ll start to hear about offers and visits in the coming weeks.

I wonder if Tone would have transferred if DM wasn't fired? He said a few times that the team was like a band of brothers and that they all wanted to stay together albeit for Tone's latest reasoning that trumped that sentiment. He will improve any team that is fortunate to persuade him to join -- probably Wisconsin.

I realize the portal can immediately swing a team's fortunes between favorable/unfavorable but for teams like ISU it can dramatically impact them because the talent pool is so thin at the top. Losing Horne and Reeves is hard to recover from in a two year span and especially hurtful because the money years (Jr/Sr) are cashed in elsewhere after the initial investment from the host institution. The Redbirds have had trouble with this over the years under DM. Just when you see how good the team could be where recruiting classes are overlapping for sustainable program building then someone with a high ceiling leaves. The program building process takes a hit and replacing that lost talent takes twice as long or longer.

I keep telling myself to be patient with the program building with RP.

Portal giveth and taketh away. Drake’s coach had I believe 3 scholarship players after taking over. He completely flipped the roster and went 24-10 (12-6). It can be done.

Maybe some of his band of brothers have stated to him that they weren't staying. Just speculating. If the team is breaking up, he probably doesn't want to be part of a rebuild again.

Part of a rebuild again? Excuse me but they’ve played Thursday night each year of his career. Next year has more hope than any other. And to be frank, I love Tone’s game and he’s been a fantastic representative of ISU, but I’m not getting upset over someone on this bad of a team leaving.

Iowa State won 2 games last year and now they are in the Sweet 16. It can be done in ONE year.
Agreed. Get a coach that can build a program, not a team of athletes. We’ve tried that the last few years and are a bottom of the valley squad. Reeves can fill it up for a bottom feeder. It’s proven. What would he do on a team that is actually competing for the conference title or would he even be the go to guy?

Pedon wasn’t brought on to build a team or retain talent for Antonio Reeves. He is here to rebuild the entire basketball program.

As long as there is a minuscule chance, I’m going for Coach Pedon to bring in a couple of Belleville guys to get this party started:
E.J.Liddell
Javon Pickett
Antonio Reeves than pulls his name from Transfer Portal
Sy returns
Fleming developes into the top PG in MVC
🤷‍♂️

Maybe a better term than a rebuild is "a new group of players". We haven't had any continuity with the same players in his time at ISU. I don't blame him for leaving, especially if he lost his coach and some of his teammates. I would still want him back if we were 0 and 30 last year. The guy is a good player that has been stuck in a bad situation. Forget the point total, the eye test pretty much says he would help us next year.

I'm really interested to see how his game plays out in a p6 conference 2-3 nights each week. Is he a role player? Starting 5? Yesufu at Kansas?

Well, I want Reeves to stay, altho if many of you are correct, I'll get to see him play in Madison next year anyway.

BUT - let's wait and see what Coach Ryan can do with his "recruiting" - who can he bring in from the portal?? No reason to think he won't be able to round up a half dozen guys looking to make their mark and get this thing moving again. Maybe a "cast off" or two from OSU. HS kid or two he didn't have room for at OSU. Let it play out kids, the tournament is only one weekend in.

I am excited to see the growth of the guys that stay.
The improvement of ISU players over a 4 year period was one of many reasons I enjoyed following college basketball players. I think over the last several years, that has not been a strong suit. However, I do think Dean Oliver did a great job. Hiring the right assistants are key.
