I think transfers make the game much less watchable. Even free agency in pro sports you get a guy for a couple years before they can go some place else. Now these kids aren’t getting “paid” (even though they get a lot) so you can’t bind them to a school, but the NCAA has always let players leave. You just have to sit a year. Nowadays when it is taking 5 or 6 years to get a degree, I don’t see how it’s that big of a deal. It at least makes a kid think about where they are going and if they are going to leave. There are now kids transferring back to the school they left in the first place.

I think the transfers up until this year weren’t because Muller tricks anyone in what they are getting at ISU. He initially ran Janko’s guys out of the program. Then his first 5 or 6 years we took risks on kids with poor character and those guys failed miserably. Now he tried to get better kids and they don’t want to spend their time in the basement of the MVC.

I agree with this. I think he rolled the dice and it didn't work out.

I think the transfers as it is this year needs to stop. The problem is it can be good for some of the players but it is bad for the game in general. Of course my opinion could be based on being an ISU fan. I was hoping to build around DJ because that young man wanted to win. Now we have to build around Fleming, Washington and Strong. You can throw Reeves in there if he comes back. Of course the first time I remember being burned was Marcus Arnold. Then again I remember being excited when we got Trey Guidrey. Coaches now need to learn to stay nimble Always Be Recruiting.

Some kids transfer because they are homesick; some because they feel they have been "recruited over"; some because there is a coaching change; some because they want more playing time; some because the coach proves inept or a jerk; some because they feel the team chemistry has turned toxic; some because they feel they simply made a mistake in the first place; and some because they feel they are better than their current surroundings and need to "move up." Lots of reasons for transferring. That said, there needs to be a realistic, somewhat stable way of allowing transfers to happen without either coaches having to fear losing one-third of their rosters overnight or players feeling locked into a situation they no longer desire. IMHO, it seems as though everyone involved, the players, coaches, and administrators, need some kind of group intervention to help bring this to a head sooner rather than later.

We aren't defending Dan. We just don't want every thread to be about him. Why can't you comprehend that?

So we need group and individual transfer therapists! ;)

I would disagree with Benson. I do not understand how that many players wanting to transfer is anything but a disaster?? It is becoming a turbo-charged revolving door. How does a team build continuity and team chemistry??? Answer - it cannot, when so many players turnover. NCAA is becoming similar to a number of the Pro Sports - which have become a national disgrace on several levels and losing fans by the thousands. How can a school expect support - in terms of donations and ticket sales, with such turmoil in the roster, year-after-year??? They are beginning to lose me.

I think it starts at the top, in this case the NBA. It is the most elite professional sport in the world from the aspect of how hard it is to be on a team. Europe figured out how much money is to be made so now kids have plan B which is to make a very good living playing pro ball in Europe. Even 10 years ago that was not the case. Guys wouldn't be paid, checks would bounce, contracts were not guarenteed. The pro leagues have expanded to many other countries now so kids have option C and D. Now you have 18-22 year old kids that see this and think I can make money playing after school. This is a good thing in my opinon but the problem becomes they really do not buy into the traditions of a certain school. They want the spotlight and to win now. The NCAA has made it easy to move schools so of course they are going to move at first sight of a better opportunity. At this point I don't think it will change but in fact become more of an issue for the NCAA. When players start taking endorsement deals, and it will happen things will change again. The top teams will stay Elite and all others will struggle because the best one and done kids are coming to these schools . ISU from what I have read is not getting top tier players in the portal saying I want to come here.

And to add to Birdswin and redbirdfan04 -- all this rush by the NBA to add 18 and 19 year olds adds to the crummy play you see. Guys don't have skills anymore, well-rounded games, it's all shake and bake and push and so forth. Very hard for me to watch any NBA game anymore, and the college game is suffering too as the coaches try to accommodate the freshmen who expect PT right away. It was pointed out at one point in the season that the Wisconsin Badgers starting five was older than the Bulls starting 5!! It's nuts!!

I’ve been super critical of Dan, but one thing he’s done extremely well is spring recruiting. Some of his best talent has been those April/May commits. MM, Hawkins, DAP, Lofton, etc. Not all work out, not all stay. He does find talent in the spring though.

I haven't been watching the NBA for decades. It kinda blows my mind how Garza from Iowa probably won't be a first round pick.
