FWIW, I’m hearing this was a “retire or your fired” situation.

I don't have as many negative thoughts as many have expressed here (not this thread, but over the years on all the threads) about Lyons, I appreciate the comments and insights and all. Maybe the fact that I don't have a strong positive OR negative feeling about Lyons says it all - nothing really dynamic there. Here's a chance for ISU to find a such a person, a dynamic AD leader who can make a push. We need to catch up on facilities, some will argue we need to catch up on diversity and so forth, there may be some personnel issues that need to be addressed, etc. And the looming financial "crisis".

MadBird, I completely agree with you. I was never out for his scalp but I've always believed we needed a more energetic AD.
Adunk, you've always bring a high quality information here so I can't doubt what you're saying. Sad to see somebody go out that way though, and probably thought he'd survive his poorly chosen words.

It was time but he served ISU loyally for many years. For that he deserves our thanks. I hope we find an ambitious and energetic leader who can get us to the next level on fundraising, and with it, facilities.

So let's make a good smart hire. IMO this isn't the time to hire from within. It would take some effort to get him but Brandon Martin of Missouri-Kansas City would be a good place to start.

I'm impressed that you know about him Timmy (I didn't), but his resume is very impressive. Only been at UMKC two years, maybe he wouldn't leave. But impressive guy.

So just to go on a little, what are "we" looking for? What are the "requirements"? FBS football experience? Power 5 or Group of 5? "Top Shelf" FCS (NDSU, JMU, etc.)? Would we be okay with someone from a Marquette or Creighton or other non-football school? Woman okay? Someone from a school who's "built its way" up from FCS or other "mid-major" - Boise St., Texas St., etc.? Which type of Assistant/Associate AD would be okay - beancounter type, external relations/fundraiser type, compliance type, operations type. Thoughts?
