I would bet money there will be no effort to schedule a replacement game for week 1 .. nor do I think there should be The fact that FBS teams are canceling their openers, and not just FCS buy games, but also FBS vs FBS games, inncluding both P5s and G5s. Not to mention fact that Ivy, Colonial, MEAC, Patriot, and SWAC have all canceled their entire fall football seasons .. all fall sports actually. I'm guessing Pioneer will be next for sure .. they have a lot of plane travel games. If Pioneer does cancel, that will mean 6 of 13 FCS conferences will play zero football this fall.

I think we can do without most nonconference games this season. They just aren't nearly as important as conference games. And if canceling a few nonconference games, does anything to ensure conference season will be completed, then I'm fine with canceling all nonconference games.

But it's also hard to imagine a scenario where we pull off a full 24 team playoff heading into winter. Regular flu will pick up its usual pace at some point .. and combined with covid, things could get even worse than they are right now.

Covid cases have tripled in last 5 weeks, so factor of 3.0 means cases are 200% higher hitting peak of 232 cases per Million, when it was consistently averaging about 70 cases from May 1 to June 15. This during time when testing has only increased by factor of 1.60x, so testing is up 60% in last 5 weeks . But there is possibly good news very recently with 4 straight days of declines in daily case counts and today sits at 171 cases per Million .. still 2.50x compared to 5+ weeks ago. But we haven't see 4 days of declines in over 7 weeks, so that could be a sign we have peaked for now.

We'll see where it goes from here. Maybe we'll pull off a regular season. But I'm doubtful .... unfortunately, way too many people don't take Covid seriously. I think we leave well enough alone, and take the bye week.

I am expecting our season to be cancelled or at best postponed to spring. A couple more FCS conferences drop and the playoffs begin to become meaningless. Economics, health, and liability all working against a season at this pont. I also don't think you can have a football season and cancel other sports. I may be wrong but between the university, conference, NCAA, and government there seems like it only takes one to say no and the season is over.

Lots of stats provided but this is the only sentence that I thought really meant anything. If people took Covid seriously then we would not even remotely be discussing playing football this fall or any sport. Sports are not necessary really. They are a distraction and entertainment. If you are serious about Covid why put any of these players at risk? This piecemeal approach to some conferences shutting down and others forging ahead has become absurd. Some adults need to make decisions but most seem to just kick the can down the road. I would love to watch the Birds play this year but not if it means one student/athlete, coach or fan gets sick. I know the kids want to play. I know it will really suck for some of them to lose this season. However, some adult with that responsibility needs to make a hard decision with the health and safety of these players in mind.

Situation with Covid is Dicey period. Colleges and High Schools are letting students choose to return or do online. Some states even requiring teachers etc to return. So why is playing football dangerous. Actually if no students other than athletes were on campus the chances etc of getting covid is more limited due to the fact players are at practice team meetings etc for about 4 hrs a day. Now with others on campus etc for the other hrs of the day which getting covid is more likely to happen . Mask at Walmart/Grocery stores are great ! But at same time we hear varibles about ventilation/AC systems where covid has spread in retail enviroments. LOL wonder if a family who had it and is cleared 2/3 weeks later if the virus lives in their AC system ? Some of the schools that have cancel or delay til spring are requiring their players/students be back on campus for fall ! LOL ! Crazy if anyone think with elementary kids teachers parents are going to be able to make sure that leave it to Beaver/Dennis the Menace is going to keep that mask on. Other issue when will a vaccine be available ? Will it be safe from after effects ? Will players be require take a vaccine shot ? or will they be allow to sign waiver etc not to take the shot. I personally would not want my child to take a vaccine that has been push through the system and be a lab rat. Back to the topic of a 1st game NIU or Ball State would be a good game for the Redbirds as far as region and travel etc.

Just my opinion but if people had taken Covid seriously we would be Ireland or Iceland or Norway or New Zeland or Thailand or a host of other countries that are able to get back to normal (or at least closer to it than we are) but "we" didn't. So we'll continue to flounder until science comes up with a vaccine. YES, WE NEED AN ADULT IN THE ROOM! Peace Brother!
